French Bonnat-Helleu Museum
Le Cannet,French 2011,2
The French Bonnat-Helleu Museum is more than just an exhibition space,it is a tribute to the profound connection between the artist Pierre Bonnard’s later years and the Mediterranean light. The museum frequently showcases his late-career interpretations of natural landscapes, gardens, and the flora of the South of France (such as mimosa), emphasizing a sense of “contemplation” and “luminosity” in art. Located near the “Le Bosquet” villa where Pierre Bonnard once lived, one of the museum’s core themes is to allow visitors, upon stepping outside the exhibition halls, to immediately see the same Mediterranean light and vegetation depicted in his paintings—achieving a seamless transition between the artwork and the real-world scene.
Pierre Bonnard settled in Le Cannet in 1922 and spent the last 22 years of his life there, during which he created approximately 300 works. At the initiative of the then mayor and with the support of Bonnard’s descendants, the municipality of Le Cannet decided to establish the project as a key part of the town’s cultural identity.
After the completion of our project, the museum has outlined the following plans for the future: first, to enrich its collection and launch a digitization project; second, to pursue international curation and dynamic exhibition rotations; and finally, to achieve sustainable development and realize the “Green Museum” vision.
The French Bonnat-Helleu Museum has a total gross floor area of approximately 890 square meters. The museum’s net exhibition space covers about 550 square meters. The museum is spread across 4 levels, with galleries located on different floors, typically including areas for the permanent collection and temporary exhibitions. The museum houses a core collection of around 150 works. This includes approximately 15 oil paintings (many of which are masterpieces from his artistic maturity), as well as a large number of drawings, prints, posters, sculptures, and valuable photographs.
For the sculptures and ceramic works, we have designed individual tall museum showcase. These museum showcase are fully transparent on all four sides, allowing visitors to view the three-dimensional exhibits from a 360° angle. They feature low-reflection glass, controlling reflectivity to below 1% to prevent lighting interference with the viewing experience.
For the stone/plaster sculpture groups, we have designed individual tall museum showcase that are fully transparent on all four sides. This all-glass design enables visitors to view every detail and angle of the sculptures from all around, perfectly presenting the form and texture of these three-dimensional artifacts.
Display Case Types: To accommodate the diverse display requirements of various artifacts, we have equipped the museum with over 30 display cases across 5 different models. These include individual tall museum glass display case, island-style double-sided individual museum glass display case, and individual tall museum glass display case that are fully transparent on all four sides.
For artworks such as drawings and prints, we have designed island-style double-sided individual museum showcase. The double-sided glass design allows visitors on both sides of the aisle to view the exhibits, significantly enhancing space utilization and the efficiency of visitor traffic flow.
For the bronze sculptures, we have designed large standalone museum showcase. The fully transparent, low-reflectance glass allows viewers to appreciate the dynamic posture, intricate details, and overall composition of the sculptures from 360° unobstructed views.
