The museum systematically presents the complete historical trajectory of the Hakka people, from their southward migration from the Central Plains, through their formation and development, to their global dissemination. It offers an in-depth interpretation of Hakka dialect, architecture, folk customs, humanistic spirit, and outstanding contributions. It is acclaimed as a cultural hall where one can “understand the Hakka in a single day.”
As a national-level cultural landmark, and to continuously enhance the preservation standards of its collections and optimize the visitor experience, the museum has in recent years persistently advanced the modernization of its exhibitions. Our involvement was precisely in this systematic upgrade project targeting its core exhibition areas and intangible cultural heritage hall.
The entire project covers a total area of approximately 170.3 mu (about 113,533 square meters), with a total floor area of about 37,000 square meters. The main hall is a circular platform-shaped building with a floor area of approximately 12,000 square meters. The museum’s collection system is vast, encompassing Hakka historical relics, folk artifacts, calligraphy and paintings by notable figures from various dynasties, and precious ancient books.
Among these are the treasured collection of over 8,000 ancient books belonging to Huang Zunxian, a renowned modern thinker and diplomat. This collection contains a large number of rare editions, unique copies, and Huang Zunxian’s personal handwritten annotations, holding extremely high documentary and historical value.
In permanent exhibition halls such as “The Hakka People” and “History of Meizhou,” we employed a combination of serialized, modular connected cases, freestanding cases, and large display wall systems. A unified, minimalist design language ensures the coherence of the grand narrative and visual clarity, while the modular design grants the curation team great flexibility to adjust artifact groupings as content is updated.
The collaboration with the Guangdong China Hakka Museum stands as another exemplary model of our service to national-level cultural landmarks and deep involvement in cultural heritage preservation and transmission. For this project, we supplied the museum with a total of 41 display cases, including freestanding cases, wall-mounted cases, and counters.
What we provided was not merely a set of high-quality display cases, but a forward-looking, secure, and expressive exhibition ecosystem. This system has successfully facilitated the proper placement of over ten thousand Hakka artifacts within a scientific preservation environment. It has also enabled the museum’s core exhibition concept of “understanding the Hakka in a single day” to be presented more clearly, vividly, and impactfully.
This custom-designed, elongated contextual museum display case features a minimalist black cabinet body enclosed by full-height, high-transparency anti-glare glass. Positioned as a long, independent unit in the core area of the exhibition hall, its extended space accommodates multi-category folk exhibits such as architectural micro-models and traditional farming tools, creating a cohesive display effect that evokes “scenes of Hakka life.”
Based on an elongated tabletop, this unit is paired with two sets of minimalist dark grey cabinet bodies and small display cases with full-height, high-transparency glass covers. It conserves exhibition space while allowing for the separate display of different types of artifacts, achieving a clear and organized presentation for smaller exhibits.
