V&A East Museum

Stratford, East London, UK 2022,8

The core curatorial theme of the new museum in East London, UK, centres on “creativity and contemporary culture,” focusing on design, fashion, music, youth culture, and diverse social issues. Through open storage, interactive experiences, and immersive exhibitions, it aims to create a next-generation museum space that is future-oriented, emphasising public participation and cross-cultural exchange.

As the new East London museum advances its concepts of open storage and immersive exhibition, traditional standardized display equipment can no longer meet the requirements for artifact protection, security control, spatial flexibility, and audience interactive experience. Therefore, the project team has opted for a custom exhibit display case solution to accommodate the display needs of different types of collections, achieve constant temperature and humidity, anti-reflection, high security levels, and modern visual presentation, thereby comprehensively enhancing the exhibition quality and international operational standards of the new museum.
After our team completed the exhibit display case renovation, the new East London museum will continue to develop towards an “international open museum” in the future, focusing on advancing digital immersive exhibitions, public education, youth creative exchange, and open storage display systems, while strengthening collaboration with global art, design, and cultural institutions to further enhance the museum’s international influence and public engagement experience, establishing a new cultural landmark and creative hub in East London.
The new East London museum project has a total floor area of approximately 16,000 square metres, equivalent to the size of more than 30 basketball courts, with four main floors. It currently houses over 250,000 art and design objects, 350,000 books, and around 1,000 archival collections, making it one of the largest open‑storage museum projects in the UK in recent years.
For electronic music exhibits,we adopted low‑table museum glass cases. This low‑profile design allows visitors to view the exhibits at eye level, clearly observing the details of the equipment. The museum glass cases are made of ultra‑clear low‑reflection tempered glass, transparent on all four sides, enabling 360‑degree viewing of the exhibits.
For clothing/textiles,we used freestanding museum glass cases. These cases feature low‑reflection laminated glass that blocks ultraviolet light, preventing fibre fading. The sealed structure isolates dust, pollutants, and visitor contact.
Types of display cases: To meet the diverse display requirements of different artifacts, we manufactured over 80 display cases in 12 different types for the museum, including low‑table cases, freestanding cases, and freestanding modular wall‑length display cases.
For clothing exhibits,We adopted panoramic freestanding museum glass cases. These museum glass cases are made of fully transparent tempered glass on all four sides, allowing an unobstructed 360‑degree panoramic view for visitors. The sealed structure isolates dust and can accommodate a built‑in humidity control system to protect textiles.
For fashion exhibits,We used freestanding modular wall‑length museum glass cases. These museum glass cases are specifically designed for serialized, thematic fashion exhibits. Anti‑reflective glass combined with overhead track spotlights clearly presents fabric textures and tailoring details.
