The core exhibition theme of the Galway City Museum is “Marine Science and Historical and Cultural Changes on the Atlantic Coast.” Through interactive marine ecology exhibits, medieval trade archaeology, and modern social folklore, it vividly tells the story of Galway’s evolution from an Atlantic fishing village into a modern cultural city.
In response to the extreme climate along the Atlantic coast—characterised by year-round heavy rainfall, high salinity, and high humidity—as well as the critical need for high-security theft protection for the museum’s precious medieval silverware, the Galway City Museum urgently required the replacement of its old exhibition display cabinets during its digital upgrade and exhibition renewal process. Consequently, the museum invited our team to design and manufacture customised, state-of-the-art display cases for its marine science, medieval trade, and precious textile exhibition areas. These exhibition display cabinets feature world-class micro-environmental temperature and humidity control, zero emission of harmful volatile compounds, and a high-security, anti-vandalism rating.
Following the completion of this high-end customised exhibition display cabinet upgrade, the Galway City Museum will rely on this advanced exhibition system—equipped with top-tier micro-environmental control and multimedia integration capabilities—to fully accelerate its transition towards digital and immersive storytelling. It aims to attract more national and international touring exhibitions of precious artefacts that demand stringent environmental conditions, thereby establishing itself as the most internationally standardised, greenest, and most sustainable world-class landmark centre for culture and marine science education on the Atlantic coast.
The Galway City Museum has a total floor area of 2,100 square meters and features three floors of exhibition spaces (ground floor, first floor, and second floor). Its collection includes over 1,000 precious historical artifacts, artworks, and specimens donated by local residents over the past decades. These items are displayed in stages across the museum’s core exhibition areas of archaeology, history, and marine science.
For archaeological artifacts, we used center island exhibition display cabinets. These exhibition display cabinets feature four sides of fully transparent, low-reflection glass that blocks ultraviolet light, allowing visitors to walk around the case and view the artifacts from any angle.
For the maritime civilization collection, we used continuous wall‑mounted exhibition display cabinets. This low, horizontal design enables visitors to see small exhibits at eye level. The continuous arrangement along the wall, together with graphic panels mounted above, presents the entire sequence of Galway’s coastal shipbuilding and the development of fishing and hunting folk customs.
Display Case Types: To meet the display requirements of various artifacts, we manufactured over 40 display cases in 7 different models for the museum, including table‑top flat cases, continuous wall‑mounted cases, and others.
For the bronze bust sculpture, we used a freestanding vertical museum exhibit cases. This case features four sides of fully transparent ultra-clear low-reflection glass, which is anti-glare and UV-protective, allowing visitors to enjoy a 360° view of the sculpture.
ForFor the personal relics of revolutionary figures, we used a table‑top flat museum exhibit cases. The low, horizontal design of this case enables visitors to see the details of the exhibits clearly through both eye‑level viewing and a slight downward glance.
