The National Museum of Mongolia
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia 2017.09
The exhibition systematically presents a panoramic view of Mongolian history from prehistoric times through the 20th century. It spotlights the culture, history, and way of life of the nomadic peoples of the Mongolian Plateau, including the Xiongnu, Xianbei, Turkic, Khitan, and Mongol peoples.
This project is part of a recent initiative to elevate artifact preservation standards and modernize exhibition displays. It launched an upgrade plan for the core exhibition halls, aiming to narrate Mongolia’s historical story to the world through an international, professional language of exhibition design.
The exhibition spaces are primarily distributed across 3 floors, and the museum’s collection comprises approximately 60,000 movable cultural relics.
The range of artifact types is exceptionally broad: from fragile silk garments and paper documents to heavy stone tools and metal weapons. This diversity places vastly different demands on display cases in terms of load-bearing capacity, micro-environmental control, and lighting design.
The silk and woolen traditional costumes of Mongolia’s various ethnic groups are among the collection’s highlights, yet they are extremely sensitive to light, temperature, and humidity. For these, we provided professional climate-controlled preservation cases.
For this upgrade project, we supplied the museum with a total of 26 display cases across 9 distinct models. The selection included styles such as freestanding cases, wall-mounted cases, counters, and rounded display cases.
These cases maintain a stable conservation micro-environment and utilize 100% UV-filtering, museum-grade cold light sources. This ensures the vibrant colors and intricate embroidery of the garments are displayed perfectly while achieving zero-damage protection.

This is a set of custom-designed, recessed wall-mounted display cabinets for ethnic artifacts at the museum: The cabinets feature a warm-toned wooden frame combined with a high-transparency, protective display surface. Their recessed, wall-mounted design not only saves valuable gallery space but also integrates naturally with the surrounding environmental style.
For thousands of small to medium-sized artifacts such as snuff bottles, jewelry, and horse tack accessories, we designed modular, combinable freestanding display cases. This cabinet is crafted from a warm-toned wooden frame and full-height, high-transparency anti-glare glass. Its freestanding form is ideal for the focused display of artifacts in key areas of the exhibition hall.
